Valuing What Matters in Future Housing
The UK housing sector faces urgent and complex challenges, from ageing, inefficient homes and climate adaptation demands to rising ESG expectations and a £250 billion retrofit target by 2050. Yet traditional housing valuation methods continue to overlook long-term sustainability, resilience, and social impact, risking misaligned investment and policy decisions. This research responds to that gap. Through the development of a transparent and replicable Multi-Criteria Valuation Model (MCVM), this PhD project aims to redefine how we assess the long-term value of housing in the UK. By integrating ESG performance, adaptability, climate resilience, and financial risk, the model will help stakeholders, from policymakers to developers to make future-proof, evidence-based decisions that align with Net Zero and broader sustainability goals.
Research Insights
Welcome to the thinking space!
This section shares evolving ideas, early discoveries, and practical reflections from my research into how we value housing in a rapidly changing world. I’m exploring how sustainability, ESG, resilience, and financial risk can be meaningfully integrated into new valuation models — ones that reflect the true, long-term value of UK homes. Whether you’re in policy, practice, or academia, these insights are here to spark dialogue, challenge assumptions, and contribute to a more transparent, future-ready approach to housing.
